When were the 2026 WAEC (WASSCE) results released?
WAEC released the 2026 WASSCE results for school candidates on Wednesday, 5 August 2026. Dr Amos Dangut, Head of WAEC's Nigeria National Office, announced them at a press briefing in Lagos, and results have been checkable at waecdirect.org since that day. If you sat the 2026 WASSCE, your result is waiting — you do not need to wait for anything else.

Get your serial number and PIN free with your NIN
For the 2026 WASSCE you do not need to buy a scratch card for your first five checks. WAEC issues your result checker serial number and PIN free at waec.org against the National Identification Number you registered with. Do this before paying any vendor.
- 1 Open waec.orgSelect the "Serial Number and PIN" menu at the top of the page. This is WAEC's own portal — not waecdirect.org, which is where you check the result afterwards.
- 2 Choose year and dietPick the examination year (2026) and the correct diet.
- 3 Enter exam number and NINType your examination number and your National Identification Number. It must be the same NIN you used when registering for WAEC.
- 4 Get an OTPEnter your email address and phone number; WAEC sends a one-time password to confirm it is you.
- 5 Input the OTPYour serial number and PIN appear. You can also download your WAEC ID card to your phone from the same portal.

Uses per PIN: up to 5 checks on the same examination number, then it locks. WAEC said candidates who exhaust their five free attempts can buy additional result checker PINs from WAEC offices.
Your NIN must match: it has to be the same NIN submitted during your WAEC registration, or the portal will not release your PIN. If you registered without a NIN, contact your school's examination officer.
If you still need a card — for an older exam year, or after your five free checks — vendor sites listed them between ₦3,450 and ₦5,400 when we checked on 31 August 2026. That is a vendor-reported range, not an official WAEC price. Compare before you pay.
Use only waec.org and waecdirect.org. WAEC has warned candidates away from unofficial result-checking platforms. Nobody needs to "unlock" your result for a fee. A real card always shows a matching serial number and a 12-digit PIN. If a vendor sends only a "code" with no serial, treat it as a scam. Same if they want payment before showing you the card.

Result withheld or outstanding — what it means
"Withheld" or "outstanding" means WAEC has not released a grade for that subject yet, and there are two different situations behind it in 2026.
Still being processed (116,031 candidates, 5.95%). At the 5 August briefing WAEC said these were held up by issues it was resolving. It said it was working to release them "within a couple of days." If this is you, keep re-checking at waecdirect.org — nothing is required from you.
Withheld over alleged malpractice (167,486 candidates, 8.59%). WAEC said every case is investigated, then reported to a Council committee for a final decision. Affected candidates hear the outcome through their schools. Candidates can lodge a complaint or defence on WAEC's complaint portal at waecinternational.org/complaints, which WAEC confirms is still open.
No PIN or SMS check bypasses either case, and no agent can "unlock" a withheld result for a fee. Contact your school's examination officer or the nearest WAEC state office for status, with your examination number and registration details ready.

Institutions and employers who need to confirm a WAEC certificate have two official routes:
- WAEC Digital Certificate Platform — the candidate initiates an instant confirmation request at waec.org/confirmation; the institution receives a secure email and verifies free of charge.
- WAEC Results Verification — institutions and organisations can verify directly at verify.waeconline.org.ng, including bulk requests.
For the 2026 WASSCE, WAEC said released results reach the portal within 12 hours. You can then apply for your digital certificate, which arrives within 48 hours.
